1. Is it the TRUTH?

INTRODUCTION OF VISITING ROTARIANS AND GUESTS

Paul Elias introduced CARL KELSEN, visiting from the South bank Rotary Club of Melbourne, Australia. CARL noted that the Australians have supported the United States in every battle since the Battle of Little Bighorn and said that Australians feel very warm toward our country. President Bruce Dickson and CARL exchanged club banners.

Scott Chambers introduced AMY WOODARD, just back from RYLA.

Richard Weed introduced rebound exchange student RICKY BODLE, outbound exchange student MELANIE PURVIS and next year’s outbound student candidate, MADDY ANCONA.

MEMBER RECOGNITION

Russ Rainwater conducted member recognition. Kelly McGraw and Dan Gardner were not present for their birthday recognition nor were Teresa Smith and Darrick Price present for recognition of their respective anniversaries

Marcia Baragary, who is going camping with her family over the weekend celebrated her birthday this week..

Erin Stephenson is taking her hubby and son to Paris for two weeks celebrating their anniversary.

Phil and Susan Hutchinson are celebrating 39 years of marriage.

President Bruce Dickson encouraged the club to Feed the Pig for Polio. He said the pigs are “losing weight” due to low donations.

President Bruce also mentioned that Jim Walker’s son is very ill. Jim and Molly are with him now.

Our Concert in the Park series continues this Tuesday in the Linfield Oak Grove with a Beatles tribute band.

BRAGS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

LV Van Blaricom is seeking donations of school supplies and money for Operation backpack. The group needs to buy and fill at least 650 backpacks with school supplies for needy kids before school starts in September.

Bruce Huffman and his wife Esther have just moved to Hillside. They need to sell their home and Bruce is promising a sizeable donation to the club on behalf of anyone who helps him sell the house.

Lee Vasquez encouraged everyone to support Carlton’s Walk in the park this weekend, and thanked club members who are volunteering at the event.

Jeff Peterson is seeking Linfield Friendship Families to help international students adjust to life in the US. The students are from China, Japan and Germany. Jeff stressed this is not a hosting situation—more like having the students over for dinner during the holidays or including them in family activities throughout the year.

Pam Watts invited everyone to the Yamhill County Historical Society’s annual Harvest Fest on August 7th and 8th. As her birthday falls during set-up of the event, she made a donation to the club in advance.

John Larsen said it will take a village to fill Johannes Goddik’s shoes—Johannes has retired from the set-up and tear-down committee. Please contact Brandon Malloy if you can help.

MAIN EVENT

Ray Fields presented the club with a rundown on the amendments to the Club’s Constitution and Bylaws.

We now have a 5th “avenue of service”: New Generations, which focuses on youth development. There are also changes to the process of a member transferring from one club to another. There was a former rule stating when the board of directors must meet—that’s been changed to meeting at the president’s discretion, as long as he (or she) gives at least two weeks notice. The club’s board of directors membership was increased by one member to 14.

A motion to accept the changes was moved, seconded and approved by club members present.

Following the vote, President Bruce took to the podium to conduct a Club Assembly. He ran through an informative power point outlining the strategic planning process and it purpose. He then went through items the members attending the visioning session had identified as priorities. Most popular seemed to be “make-up meetings at a wine bar.”

The categories are: Club Service, Community Service, Vocational Service, International Service, and New Generations.

Paul Elias wrote the “elevator speech”: “Rotary is a worldwide fellowship of business and professional community members united in the ideal of service.
All are members of a local Rotary club providing humanitarian service, encouraging high ethical standards and helping to build goodwill and peace I the world.”

Bob Emrick wrote the mission statement and promised money to anyone who can recite it over the coming months: “The mission of the Rotary Club of McMinnville is to serve our local community and international communities.”

President Bruce asked club members to congregate at one of the following tables: Community Service, Fundraising, Rotary Foundation, Vocational Service, International Service, New Generations, or Leadership Development.

By following the formula EPOP: Each Person One Project, President Bruce’s hope is that every member will be involved in something that stirs his or her passion. Club members were than asked to go to tables for the avenues of service that in which they had the most interest.

Dan Corrigan suggested the club consider hosting a series of business forums so that struggling business people can get together. He said that 94% of business in Yamhill County is small business; that means having under 200 employees.

Bruce Huffman asked for paper copies of the strategic plan. A PDF file of President Bruce's PowerPoint presentation is on the web at http://www.mcminnvillerotary.org/ClubAssembly73010.pdf. It is a very large file and may take approximately 2 to 3 minutes to download.

CLOSING ANNOUNCEMENTS

After asking one person at each table to take a few notes and email the other folks at that same table, President Bruce announced the meeting was adjourned.
