2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it Build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

INTRODUCTION OF VISITING ROTARIANS AND GUESTS

President-Elect Bruce Dickson introduced BETHANY and AUSTIN PALACIOS and EHREN CASTLE of the Mac High Interact Club. The group is heading to the District Conference this weekend

Ryan Arzner introduced former club members SHARON LARSON and DUDLEY FROST, now members of the Sunrise Rotary.

MAIN EVENT

We were out of order this week, as our speaker had to catch the team bus out of town when he finished his presentation

Shoshannah Siefken introduced ERIC BAILEY of Yamhill HighFlyers Basketball, “Yamhill County’s First Sports Franchise.”
The HighFlyers are owned by YHF Entertainment, LLC. Eric Bailey serves as the HighFlyers General Manager. Bailey has previous experience working in professional minor league baseball, soccer and basketball. He formed YHF Entertainment, LLC, with co-owners Greg Levinson, Erik Abel and Kevin Bailey in 2009.

ERIC received a Rotary scholarship as a graduating high school student and thanked the club for their support.
The HighFlyers have a 7-1 record at this point in the season. The team is averaging 127 points per game. ERIC says they play a fast-paced game: “condensed, exciting, up-tempo and fun to watch.” There are only 4 timeouts per game and they last about 2 hours.

The International Basketball League is comparable to the minor league of the NBA. Many of the players spend part of the year in other countries. The season schedule allows international players to play here when their season finishes.

ERIC is proud that Yamhill County has a sports franchise. This is the smallest city in the league and ERIC thinks there’s a wonderful opportunity to spotlight all that Yamhill County has to offer. There are sponsorship opportunities available with the team.

The HighFlyers practice in Tualatin at Club Sport, the former training location of the Trailblazers. It is a first-class facility and part of what attracts many players to the team. There are currently nine Division 1 players on the roster. The HighFlyers give back to the community in numerous ways. They participated in Operation Backpack, donated to the Mid-Valley Rehabilitation golf tournament, and have established a community scholarship fund for student athletes who plan to pursue higher education in Yamhill County. They presented a check for $250 to McMinnville Youth Sports.

The team has two upcoming games in McMinnville, both at Mac High. The dates are May 28th and 29th. Tickets are affordable: from $4.00-$8.00 per person. For more information about the team, schedules, and tickets, please visit their website: www.highflyersbasketball.com .

President Jan presented Eric with a yellow LA Lakers T-Shirt brought by Rich Scheiber.

MEMBER RECOGNITION, BRAGS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Following the program, Past president Chuck Pattishall announced there are no birthdays this week. However, Bob Rhoads and his wife are celebrating 58 years of marriage this week.

Norm Goss gave a check to commemorate his 33rd wedding anniversary April 23rd.
Norm added a brag for the Linfield softball and baseball teams. The women are in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, playing in the Softball World Series. The men are playing here in town.

Jeanne De Raeve apologized for her recent absences. She was in Texas for the birth of a grandson and in San Francisco for her son’s long-awaited college graduation.

Lee Means reminded the club that RYLA is coming up soon and she is hoping for some applications.

Lynda Phillippi spoke about the Annual Rose sale. Next Friday (May 28th) is the deadline for orders. The roses will be at Citizen’s Bank on Friday June 4th. She also invited the club members, family and friends to the Pancake Breakfast this Sunday at Brookdale Senior Living, benefiting Henderson House and the Biggest Turkey competition.

Erin Stephenson hopes to see everyone at the Volunteer Fair Saturday at the Community Center. There will be 45 non-profits there, each hoping for your time as a volunteer. First Federal is sponsoring the event.

SHARON LARSON of the Sunrise Rotary offered wine raffle tickets for the grand prize, which will be drawn at Turkey Rama.

AUSTIN PALACIOS thanked the club for all the support he received during his run for Mr. Mac High. He won and better than that, the campaign raised about $20,000 for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

Chuck read a quote from Marianne Williamson in honor of the Interact students, AUSTIN, EHREN, AND BETHANY. You probably know it.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

President Jan asked Kelly Odegaard to give an update about Uncorked.  7 weeks to go! The invitations are in the mail.

Kelly asked every club member to contribute ONE bottle of good wine by June 11th. He is looking for members to host winery events after the auction. And of course we need lots of volunteers and it is time to put names next to specific tasks.  Please contact Kelly and let him know what you want to do.

President Jan shared a note from Amy Fast, one of the teachers recognized two weeks ago during the teacher recognition program.

At the 2010 District Conference luncheon, all of the Interact students which included our three students, AUSTIN, EHREN, AND BETHANY. sang for those assembled. Following their performance, was the presentation of the Rotary 4 Way Test Speeches. Our own DAKOTA BUHLER did an outstanding job and took second place in this year's competiton.

CLOSING

President Jan Hartzell will be out of town on business next week and President-Elect Bruce Dickson will be out of town, as well. So our leader is a surprise. The program next week is AOF SOMPATPIRON, our exchange student from Thailand.
