ROTARY'S FOUR WAY TEST
"Of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it Build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"

McMinnville Rotary Meeting Summary

OPENING

Greeter were Dan Gardner and Todd Casebeer.  John Larsen gave an Inspirational Moment reading of a poem about transitions in our lives. The Pledge of Allegiance was then led by Jack Crabtree

VISITING ROTARIANS AND GUESTS

Jan Hartzell welcomed SHAWN HUI to the meeting.  SHAWN recently completed a student exchange experience in Ecuador.

Bruce Huffman introduced MIKE TARON, who recently returned to McMinnville from Pasadena, California.  His stay here will be brief, however, as he will soon be starting a new business in Brunei, which forms a part of the island of Borneo.

LV VanBlaricom introduced BETH FAYLOR, Manager of the Wyndham Senior Living Facility.

LV continued the introductions at her table by welcoming MELANIE PURVIS, who will be our 2010-2011 Outbound Exchange Student, and her mother, JULIE PURVIS.

Edwina Castle introduced her son, EHREN CASTLE, a Senior at Mac High who is a member of the Twilighters and is also a veteran of many stage productions at the school.

Erin Stephenson introduced JULIE BISHOP, who has recently joined the team at First Federal.  Julie is also President-Elect of the Newberg Noon Rotary Club.

 MAIN EVENT

Due to time constraints, the featured program was presented immediately following the introduction of guests.  Lee Means invited GINA REGALADO, coach of the Mac High Dance Team, to the podium.  While the Dance Team assembled for a brief performance, GINA shared some information about the Dance Team’s history, purpose, and future plans.  GINA, who had relocated to McMinnville from Texas (via California) founded the team four years ago when she discovered that the High School had not had a dance team for a number of years.  From the beginning, the Mac High Dance Team has been a “no cut” team, and has focused on community service and support of school activities, rather than being competitive-based.  The criteria for joining the team are: high academic ethics, good attendance at school, and a solidly high grade point average.  Recently, the Dance Team learned that they had been invited to the 2010 Orange Bowl, which will take place in Miami this coming January.  The Team has been extremely busy with fundraising efforts as they prepare for the trip to Florida.

Following GINA’S introduction, the Dance Team performed one of their latest routines, set to “All That Jazz” from the Broadway musical “Chicago”.  The routine was met with warm applause.  Following the number, GINA was asked to sign a book for the Early Reader Program at the McMinnville Library.

MEMBER RECOGNITION

Darrick Price stepped up to the podium to handle the Member Recognition portion of the meeting.

Waldo Farnham was tabbed for a birthday.

MELANIE PURVIS was recognized for the passage of her 16th birthday.

Richard Weed noted that it was not only his birthday, but the 10th Anniversary of his membership with the McMinnville Noon Rotary Club.

Russ Rainwater received kudos for another birthday.

BRAGS AND ANNOUNCMENTS

Bruce Huffman gave Dave Pfendler his due by acknowledging Purdue’s victory over Michigan in a Big 10 football match-up the previous week.

Chuck Pattishall requested that non-perishable foods be brought to the November 20 meeting as part of the Food Bank Program.

John Larsen announced that he is (finally) proud of his son-in-law, who orchestrated a Mattress Dominoes event involving over 190 participants up in Alaska.  This was done in an effort to gain entry into the Guinness Book of World Records.

Jack Price provided an Environmental Moment, a feature that has been missing from the Noon meeting for quite awhile.  Jack brought along some re-usable shopping bags, and strongly advocated their use over non-disposable plastic and costly paper bags.  Over time, use of re-usable bags by the general public will reduce the wasteful use of throwaway plastic bags that will sit in a landfill for decades.

NOMINATIONS OF OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS

Bruce Dickson
was invited to the podium to announce his proposed slate of officers and directors for next year’s Board.  They are: Jack Crabtree (President-Elect), Paul Elias (Vice President / President-nominee), Brandon Malloy, Jeff Sargent, Maryalice Russell, Lee Means, Richard Weed, Bob Emrick, and Molly Walker.  Following the presentation of the proposed officers and directors, further nominations were asked of the assembled members.  Hearing none, a motion was made and seconded to close the nominations.

CLOSING

Jan closed the meeting by thanking Chuck Pattishall and Johannes Goddik for setting up the meeting, Dan Gardner and Todd Casebeer for being Greeters, Bruce Dickson for presiding over the previous week’s meeting, and Teresa Smith, Ron Benek, Lee Vasquez, and Molly Walker for all they do.
