1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it Build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

MEMBER RECOGNITION, BRAGS,
AND ANNOUNCEMENTS |
|

Darrick Price
handled the Membership Recognition
duties with his customary “je ne se
qua”. There being no birthdays or
anniversaries to report, Darrick
moved directly into the Brags &
Announcements.
|

Sharon Larson
announced an upcoming Eagle Scout
Banquet on Wednesday, November 4th.
|

Rich
Schieber
reminded the membership the Dictionary
Project is currently underway, and that
more help is needed. Everyone is
welcome to assist by volunteering their
time to help out with this rewarding
program.
|

Van
Keck
exhorted the membership to cheer the
Oregon Ducks on during their big
Saturday showdown with the USC Trojans.
This game will have National
Championship implications! Oh yes, the
Beavers are playing too….
|

Eric Hanson
announced that his son ABRAHAM, who
recently passed his bar exams, is now
living in the area and will soon be
applying for membership with the Rotary
Club of McMinnville.
|

Having nothing further to report,
Darrick Price levied a fine on
Russ Rainwater for the sheer
audacity of the hippie costume he was
wearing. He then closed out this
portion of the meeting by relating a few
comments about Halloween. This reporter
later learned that they were jokes.
|
Prior
to the featured program, Jan Hartzell
announced that volunteers were being
sought to help count ballots on Election
Day. She also reminded all of the
members to contribute to the weekly
Pennies For Polio program. Finally, she
decided that fines were appropriate for
all members who were NOT wearing their
Rotary pins. (Note: this reporter was
NOT fined!)

MAIN EVENT |
Sharon
Larson
introduced AARON CLIFTON, a
12-year old member of the Boy
Scouts of America. AARON has
helped to institute a program
called Scouting For Food, and he
opened his presentation by
recalling the BSA’s history of
helping out during times of
national emergencies. Boy
Scouts planted gardens in World
War 1, collected food during the
Great Depression, and planted
Victory Gardens during World War
2.
In
keeping with this tradition of
helping, AARON has been deeply
involved with the Scouting For
Food program. Having grown up
under extremely difficult
conditions, AARON knows all too
well the plight of the hungry
and homeless, and has dedicated
himself to making this program a
success.
The official collection date for
the Scouting For Food program is
December 5th. Aaron
asked that the Rotary Club of
McMinnville get involved by
supporting the efforts to
collect food for the hungry.
Anyone who is interested can
contact him at
gingerbreadcook@gmail,com.
AARON then fielded some
questions from the members.
|
|
|
|
CLOSING |

Following the program, Jan Hartzell asked
the AARON to sign a book for the Early Reader
Program at the McMinnville Library. Jan
also tabbed Chuck Pattishall to be the
liaison for the Scouting For Food program. Next
Week: Chuck Pattishall and Art
Bradley will speak about their new project,
“One Hope Future”.

Editor's Note |

To say the least, Rotary has had a profound
impact on our lives. 26 years ago, my son JOSH
was a Rotary Exchange Student to Sapporo, Japan.
Today, JOSH is in his fifth year as an Assistant
Language Teacher at a junior high school in
Daigo-machi, Japan. During this visit with my
son, JOSH took me to the Rotary Club of Daigo to
make up this week's meeting. JOSH translated a
short presentation I made to the club about the
benefits of Youth Exchange and encouraging them
to get involved.

it was one of the obligations I accepted when I joined Rotary." -- A Rotarian |
