Kristy Brill walked us through the latest issue of The Rotarian. She mentioned that magazine received a lot of feedback for the February cover of Welsh opera star, Katherine Jenkins. The June issue features photo contest winners and their photographs. One of the most thought-provoking stories is written by Kilong Ung, a member of the Rotary Club of Portland since 2006. He survived the Khmer Rouge régime in Cambodia and immigrated to the United States. He has since become committed to Rotary club projects in Cambodia, including missions through Medical Teams International.

President Chuck mentioned that one of the short subject documentaries nominated for an Oscar this year was “The Final Inch”, a film about the effort to eradicate polio. Click on the link above to watch this outstanding film.

MAIN EVENT

President Chuck introduced Guy Everingham, Chair of the Rotary Club of Mcminnville Foundation’s. He recognized the following club members for their contributions to this year’s awards: Erin Stephenson, inspired by her mother, Linda Stephenson, had the bright idea of inviting the students to an awards luncheon to accept their scholarships (it worked!); Lee Vasquez, a long time committee member; Frank Bumpus., a retired educator with a fresh perspective; Steve Fitzpatrick, who tracks the dotted i’s and crossed T’s of the scholarship paperwork; and  Ron Benek, that fabulous guy who writes the checks. This year the committee reviewed 51 applications and awarded scholarships to students throughout the county.
