OPENING |
|
|
|
MAIN EVENT |

In a departure from the usual
sequence of events, President
Chuck introduced Ray
Fields, who announced the
annual 4-way speech competition
finals. After explaining the
rules of scoring each
presentation and fielding a few
bemused questions from the
audience, Ray left the
stage to the contestants.
|

Number 1, Reed
Bernhisel, presented
“Lessons I learned
from a Grape”, about
a memorable shopping
trip to Winco
|

Number 2, Junior
Lopez, amused us
with “Waiter,
there’s a Hair in my
Alfredo”, in which a
repulsive waiter
supplanted the
beautiful waitress
of Junior’s dreams
at Rose’s Deli.
|
|

Number 3, Iris
Buckingham, gave a
thoughtful speech
about being adopted
from China as an
infant by a wise and
caring family in
“Family: What does
it Mean?”
|

Number 4, Penn Sumner,
gave us the winning
speech about a red-Mohawked,
tattooed, nose
ring-wearing, BB
gun-wielding madman in
the woods, and Penn’s
subsequent encounter
with the law in “Lying
Doesn’t Pay: Lessons
from my Childhood.”

MEMBER RECOGNITION, BRAGS AND
ANNOUNCEMENTS |
|

Darrick Price conducted member
recognition. He started by recognizing
absent Kris Olsen for his
birthday and absent anniversary
celebrants Dianne Haugeberg
for 5 years, Gary Rueter
for 40 years and Jeff Long
|

Chuck
Pattishall, 18 years. His wife is an Intensive Care nurse and practices tough love
when Chuck begins to whine about not
feeling well.
|

Van Keck
was present this week to acknowledge his
43 years of marriage and announced that
his wife had the checkbook.
|

Dudley Frost
announced the birth of his first
great-grandchild, Isaac Ian Cook, a name
for the ages.
|
|

Brent Adams
began the first of his rugby season
brags: Both the A and B teams won their
recent matches.
|

Maryalice Russell
thanked the members for their
condolences after the passing of her
husband. She mentioned that his most
recent Valentine’s Day card to her
alluded to their 28 years together.

Molly
Walker
thanked the members and made a donation
to the foundation on behalf of her
father, who recently passed.
|

Russ Rainwater

Wine, prime rib, fellow Rotarians…Who
could ask for anything more?
|
Darrick
announced that he’s been accepted into
the doctoral program at George Fox
University and begins classes next week
in Management and Economics.
President Chuck mentioned that Jon Triest is in the Salem Hospital, having broken
his hip.
Darrick
led us all in a fun little “game show”
that ended much too quickly for some of
us and ended in some of the members
making a donation to the club. Part of
his role, he explained, is to raise
funds for the club. If you missed the
meeting, there were swords involved—and
knowledge of American presidents from
days of yore. There was even the music
from “Jeopardy.”
