ROTARY'S FOUR WAY TEST
"Of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it Build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"

McMinnville Rotary Meeting Summary

OPENING

Colin Armstrong and our club’s newest member, Ken Till, greeted Rotarians and guests alike for our Friday gathering. John Larsen led the club in an invocation that touched on the tragedy that befell nine exchange students in Portland last week and Stephanie Jensen got the meeting off to an official start with the Pledge of Allegiance. President Chuck got the meeting official under way by calling for the introduction of guests.

VISITING ROTARIANS AND GUESTS

Dave Pfendler introduced Robert Moore, past member of our club and President of CASA’s Board of Directors.

An honorary member and club Past President, Charlie Walker, was introduced by Ron Stone.

Sharon Larson introduced her guest, Ginger Clifton.

Our own inbound exchange student, Tamar Borges, was introduced by her current host dad, Steve Battaglia.

And finally, Elise Hui introduced her son Shawn who is headed out on a short term exchange this summer.

MEMBER RECOGNITION, BRAGS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Next up Rotary’s own standup comedian, Derrick Price, took control of the podium to lead the club through member recognition. Both Bob Emrick and Art Bradley were recognized for celebrating birthdays. Bob put in three bills and said that he was paying $1 too much. I guess he must be 29.

Turning to anniversaries Bob Mason was recognized for his, and made a $50 contribution.

Ray Fields was also celebrating 50 years of marriage, just not to the same person. But, thanks to Rotary, he is celebrating his 19th anniversary with the right one.

Johannes Goddick is celebrating 53 years with the same woman and made the appropriate contribution.

And finally, Bruce Huffman was recognized for celebrating 5 years with Ester.

Dudley Frost  asked for help distributing approximately 70 dictionaries to 4th grade students in  3 classes at Wascher Elementary School in Lafayette on Tuesday, the 3rd from 8:00 am to 9:00 am.

Turning to announcements, Lee Means said that she is looking for volunteers to help her judge the Four Way Test speech contest.

Wayne Bailey put a few dollars for a brag about a silver medal that Youngberg Hill recently won out of a competition of 4,700 wines, and also mentioned recent recognition from a French publication. He also invited Rotarians to a special library tasting at Youngberg Hill on Valentines Day.

Our own exchange student Tamara Borges thanked the club for all the support over the last week.

Stephanie Jensen invited the club to the Montessori School fundraiser being held at the Aviation Museum on Valentines Day.

Guy Everingham announced that the News Register has just won second place for over all excellence in a nationwide competition. He gave special thanks to fellow Rotarians Jim and Mollie Walker.

And finally Prez Chuck announced that several funds have been set up in the wake of the murder of two Rotary exchange students and that club member should contact him for more information about how to make a contribution

Turning to a much lighter topic, Chuck called John Larsen up to induct a new member, Evergreen’s Ken Till, who was sponsored by Colin Armstrong. Welcome Ken.

MAIN EVENT

Moving on to the program, Amy Bissonette, director of our local CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) gave a great presentation about the important work being done by CASA’s in our community. Founded locally in 1992 by Judge Collins, CASA’s work to advocate on behalf of children in the court system, advising judges on how to handle the specific case and ensuring that the best interests of the child are met. Presently 40 additional volunteers are needed to meet the local demand. To round out the presentation Judge Stone explained how important CASA’s are to the court system. For more information go to www.yccasa.org.

CLOSING

To draw the meeting to a close President Chuck had Amy sign a book for the SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) program and then had Rotarians rise and recite the Four Way Test.
