ROTARY'S FOUR WAY TEST
"Of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it Build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"

McMinnville Rotary Meeting Summary

OPENING

Elise Hui and Phil Hutchinson greeted guests at a very special Rotary meeting, the Past President’s Luncheon, which was attended by Rotarians, Past Rotary Presidents and their spouses. Past President Charlie Walker led the club in an invocation and Past President Mike Hamilton got the meeting off to an official start with the Pledge of Allegiance.

VISITING ROTARIANS AND GUESTS

President Chuck announced that we would not introduce guests today due to a robust program, so turned the meeting over to Darrick Price for member recognition.

MEMBER RECOGNITION, BRAGS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

On what turned out to be a slow day, Darrick found only two members with birthdays—Jeanne Hermens and Bruce Huffman—and no anniversaries. There were a few announcements however:

Brent Adams informed the club that he had to push back the date that he would be enthusiastically wearing a U of O cheerleading costume to January 9th. He failed to mention that there was a fitting this week, and it turns out Brent looks pretty good dressed like a girl. Community members can have their picture taken with Brent on the 9th for a can of food for YCAP.

Sharon Larson announced that the Boy Scouts had been voted the 3rd most respected charity in Oregon.

Russ Rainwater invited club members to a ballroom dance to be held next Saturday in the Ballroom. Tickets are available at the Chamber and from Russ and Steve Battaglia

Phil Hutchinson invited Rotarians to the Chamber’s Hot Topic Luncheon on Tuesday where our own Scott Chambers will discuss how our current economic crisis is effecting our local economy.

With no more announcements from members President Chuck gave the club an update on Mike McKenzie, who suffered a very serious heart attack in Reno earlier this week. Mike is out of his comma now, although suffering from short term memory loss, and had his feeding tube and ventilator removed today. He will likely have surgery early next week, and Chuck promised to keep the club informed.

Next up Jan Hartzell took the stage to announce the slate of officers for next year. They include: VP Jack Crabtree, Jeff Sargent, Lee Means, Richard Weed, Paul Elias, Elva Salinas Garcia and Brandon Malloy.  Since no further nominations were made, nominations were closed. Next week will be a final opportunity for nominations from the floor followed by an election.

SPECIAL ENTERTAINMENT PRESENTATION

Bruce Stewart started the official festivities for the day by introducing musician Mike Strickland, who has recently moved to our community. Mike is a composer and recording artist and has produced twenty albums on his own label. He entertained the club with beautiful piano music, including the songs “St. Louis Blue,” “Watching the World Go By,” and the theme to Dr. Zhivago. The music was fabulous and enjoyed by all!

INTRODUCTION OF PAST PRESIDENTS

President Chuck paid tribute to all of our Past Presidents, and with the help of Jan Hartzell recognized each one of them by calling them forward to receive a certificate. The certificate recognized their service to the club and indicated their year of service as president and also contained the logo of their year's RI Theme. Those who were in attendance are as follows:

A TIME TO REMEMBER

And finally, two esteemed Past Presidents, Dale Tomlinson and Lee Vasquez, each shared some reflections on Rotary. They focused on many of Rotary’s historical accomplishments and highlighted how far we have come in our fundraising capacity; touching on many of the wonderful projects we have had a hand in over the years, both locally and internationally. They encouraged Rotarians to be proud of the work we do, of the people we help and of the way we have shaped and built our community. Each man provided a wonderful tribute to our club and our many collective efforts to put service above self.
