MAIN EVENT
|
President
Chuck Pattishall introduced current
District 5100 Governor, Dr. Dennis Wickham. DG
Dennis opened his talk by telling the
membership that the motto for his administration
will be “Service With Pride”, and followed this
by conferring a couple of awards. First, he
presented a service citation to Jeff Long
for his work on the Program Committee. Prez
Chuck accepted the award (a book featuring
words of wisdom from Rotary founder Paul Harris)
on behalf of Jeff, who was absent. Next,
DG Dennis presented a “World Community
Service” citation to the entire club for
continuing excellence in service. President
Chuck accepted this award on behalf of the
entire club.
DG
Dennis then spoke of the programs that he
felt would figure prominently during his tenure
as District Governor. He reminded the club that
the child mortality rate worldwide was still a
staggering figure of 26,000 deaths every day.
In addition to the fight to eradicate polio, he
also emphasized the importance of continued
relief efforts to bring proper sanitation,
literacy, and potable drinking water to
third-world populations.
DG Dennis
also voiced strong support for the Rotary
Foundation, and urged all members to give
whatever support they could. He took time out
to personally congratulate the McMinnville
Rotary Club for its achievements, including the
Dictionary Project, the proposed trip to
Guatemala, and its generous support of the
Virginia Garcia Clinic and the Willamette Valley
Cancer Foundation.
DG Dennis
closed by reminding the membership that his
motto, “Service With Pride”, means that we
should all take pride in the service that we
provide as Rotarians, and that by doing so we
will continue to make dreams real, both locally
and worldwide.
|
| CLOSING |
 Following
his talk, DG Dennis was asked to sign
a book for the Early Reader Program by
President Chuck. Following the meeting,
DG Dennis posed for a photo with our
new Rotary Inbound Student, Tamara Borges.

"When meeting day comes around, I do not have to decide whether to attend or not, for that has already been decided for me . . .
it was one of the obligations I accepted when I joined Rotary." -- A Rotarianan |
