ROTARY'S FOUR WAY TEST
"Of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it Build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

Lee Means reminded the assembly that this was Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and she listed several activities going on at Henderson House.

Brent Adams updated the group on the fortunes of the McMinnville Rugby team.  The team recently split a couple of games with a pair of club teams, and are preparing for the State Playoffs.

Kristi Brill took a few moments to review the latest edition of the Rotarian.  As always, she related several letters and articles that re-affirmed the good works that Rotary International performs around the globe.  Of particular interest was a feature about the ongoing polio vaccination efforts going on in India and Nigeria.

President Dan reminded the membership that the South Korean Group Study Exchnage Team (GSE) will be arriving shortly.  He thanked the following members for opening up there homes to the visiting group: Lee Means, Richard Weed, Dan Gardner, Jill Methven, and Dudley Frost.  Dan also thanked Ray Fields for coordinating this special event.

MAIN EVENT

Ray Fields introduced Mr. Deepak Dorje Tamang,  a development and environmental professional who comes to us from Nepal.  Mr. Tamang has worked in development & environment with major international agencies in Nepal and South Asia.  He continues to do so as a senior consultant specializing in organizational management, monitoring and evaluation, building capacity, and strategic development and community-based response to natural disaster mitigation.  Currently, he is a fellow at the World Forestry Center in Portland.

Mr. Tamang gave a presentation on the current environmental issues that exist in Nepal.  He embellished the talk with a wide variety of slides and statistics, including some wonderful photographs of the imposing Himalayan Mountain Range, the world’s highest.  He pointed out that the rate of deforestation in Nepal is currently outpacing reforestation, and that major efforts are being made to arrest this trend.

CLOSING

Following the presentation, President Dan asked Mr. Tamang to autograph one of the books for the McMinnville Early Reader Program and presented him with the club pen as a gift to our speaker.
