MAIN EVENT - PART 1
 

Today's program was our annual Rotary Four Way Test Speech Contest for eighth graders. President Dan called Ray Fields to the podium to preside over the contest. Ray explained the rules for scoring the speakers speeches. Every Rotarian present was eligible to vote. The students were judged on clarity, delivery, use of all four points of the Four Way Test and time. Norm Goss acted as time keeper and Chuck Pattishall and  Maryalice Russell  tallied the score sheets. The contest involved four students, two from Duniway Middle School and two from Patton Middle School. Following the explanation, Ray, called each student to the podium by number.

Caleb Mata talked about Sage Walk, discovering himself and the impact of his decisions.

Sarah Carey talked about choices and bad decisions she made during vacation with her family.

Kyle Downing talked about being a victim of theft and the impact it had on him.

Nicki Nielsen talked about freedom and responsibility while being left home alone.

MEMBER RECOGNITION, ANNOUNCEMENTS AND BRAGS
 

Member recognition & brags and announcements were led by Al Owen. Waldo Farnham (not pictued) was asked to put in $1 for slapping Al Owen's head.

Jill Methven was recognized for her 10 year anniversary.

Kris Olsen was recognized for his birthday.

Gary Reuter was recognized for his 39th anniversary.

Chuck Pattishall was recognized for his 17th anniversary

Jeff Long was recognized for his 20 year anniversary.

Jeff Stevenson bragged about a facilitator expansion

Steve Larson bragged that he was in Acapulco last week

 

 

Al Owen asked members to vote for his son Brian for County Clerk  All those wearing a Rotary pin were asked to donate $1.

STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

Kris Olsen introduced the Students of the Month.  Ella Anderson, Instrumental Music and Lane Roennick, Spanish. 

Ella is the daughter of Ted and Marcy Anderson.  She has an older brother, Zack, a 2005 graduate of McMinnville High School. Ella attended Memorial Elementary and Patton Middle School before enrolling at McMinnville High School in her freshman year. Ella currently holds a 4.0 grade point average and is ranked 1st in her class of 503 graduates, and she has been on honor roll each semester throughout her high school career.  She is on track to be recognized as a valedictorian at graduation this coming June.  This semester, she is enrolled in Jazz Band, Advanced Placement European History, French III, Symphonic band, Advanced Placement Environmental Science, Advanced Placement English, and Advanced Placement Calculus. While in high school, Ella has been very involved in our school’s many activities.  She is a member of the National Honor Society, Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Pep Band, has been a Pacific Conference Activity Scholar in 2006 and 2007, Principle Flutist on the 2008 All-State Band, and Finalist in the Coeur d’Alene Symphony Young Artist Concerto Competition 2007. Outside of school, Ella performs with the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Band, and teaches flute and mentors middle school flutiest at Patton and Duniway Middle School. Her future plans include making application to the University of Virginia, Stanford, the University of Oregon, the University of Washington, and Oberlin where she plans to major in English, Music, and History.  One day she hopes to be a writer, and to teach and play music. Ella’s best memories of high school are Pep Band during football season, French class, AP European, and Mr. Witten’s Junior English class.

Lane is the son of Phil and Maureen Roemmick.  He has an older brother, Evan, a 2005 graduate of McMinnville High School. Lane attended Newby Elementary and Duniway Middle School before enrolling at McMinnville High School in his freshman year. Lane currently holds a 3.837 grade point average and is ranked in the top 10% of his class of 503 graduates, and he has been on honor roll each semester throughout his high school career.  This semester, he is enrolled in College Writing, Advanced Placement Calculus, Spanish IV, Outdoor Recreation Management, and United States Government. While in high school, Lane has been very involved in our school’s many activities.  He’s been a member of the Interact Club, Mr. Mac High competition running as Mr. Interact, played football, has been a member of the Doernbecher Club, and mentors 9th graders through our Link Crew program. Outside of school, Lane loves to snowboard, longboard, play with his dog, has volunteered at St. Barnabus Soup Kitchen, and hanging out with his many friends.  He also tutors a student in Geometry (if any of you are looking…). His future plans include attending Oregon State University where he plans to dual major in Business and Spanish.  He wants to one day get into the Real Estate business. Lane’s best memories of high school are from his freshman year when his older brother, Evan, was a senior, and Lane got to hang out with Evan’s friends.

Lane Roennick is running as Mr. Interact and asked for Rotary members to contribute to his fundraising.

 

MAIN EVENT - PART 2

 

Ray Fields announced the winner of the speech competition:  . President Dan Gardner asked 4 Way Test students to each sign books that will be donated to the Early Reader Program. The winner of the contest receives a $75.00 savings bond and the runners-up each receive $50.00 savings bonds
