program

Richard Weed introduced our Rebound Student, Nick Parry, who spent last year in Thailand.

Nick opened his presentation by saying that his year in Thailand was the best year of his life.

He talked about his host families.  His first family had 7 family members and no one spoke English - so he instantly began studying and practicing Thai.  During his first 3 months in Thailand, he experienced a military coup and the biggest flood Thailand had seen in 18 years.  He was with his second family for 5 months and enjoyed the freedom and travel time he got while staying with them.  He spent just 1 month with his third family.

Nick lived on the SE coast of Thailand.  He said it is known for the beautiful waterfalls.  There were 1.5 million people in his city province.  He enjoyed the fame of living in a big city and being the only American.  He said, "I was like a Beatle, I won't lie."

He said he learned Thai quickly and made great friends.  His most powerful experience was the month he spent in a Buddhist Temple.

CLOSING

President Dan Gardner asked Nick to sign a book that will be donated to the Early Reader Program.  He announced that there will be no meeting next week due to the holidays and adjourned the meeting
