ROTARY'S FOUR WAY TEST
"Of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it Build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"

SOMETHING NEW

“Is it not a miracle that Rotary has brought together good and influential men of all civilized countries?

And is it not gratifying to know that there is a platform broad enough for all men to stand on?

And is it not heartwarming to know that men of diverse faiths and allegiances can find so much in each other, which is wholesome and good?

Rotary is an integrating force in a world where disintegrating forces are far more numerous.”

Paul P. Harris

THE ROTARIAN,

June 1944

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Chuck Pattishall brought current Interact officers Lindsay Wickman and Whitney Waterbury to the podium to bring the club up to date on the activities of the high school club.  Lindsay happily announced that there are 80 members in this year’s club, and Whitney announced plans for a proposed club trip to El Salvador in the summer of 2008.

Kaleb Nyquist, past-President of the Interact club, was presented with a plaque honoring him for his tenure as President of the club in 2006-2007.

Art Bradley awarded Interact Advisor Joanna Tapasa with an Honorary Membership to the Rotary Club of McMinnville, citing her accomplishments with the high school group.  Joanna offered an emotional thank-you to the club, and said that she owed her success to Rotary and her experience as an exchange student..

Dan Gardner awarded Jack Crabtree with a pin which honors his accomplishments in bringing  a new member to the our Club.

Darrick Price and Jeff Stevenson were presented with their “blue” Rotary name badges, having earned them for successfully presenting their vocational speeches to the membership and completing other new member requirements.

Dan Gardner asked if there were any further nominations for Board positions.  Hearing none, the Announcements portion of the meeting concluded

program

Bob Emrick introduced Rob Lovett, an attorney from Lincoln County, a spokesperson for the Thugz Off Drugs program, and a nationally recognized expert on the scourge of Methamphetamine addiction, a disease that is reaching epidemic levels.

Rob offered a 3-step approach to the treatment of Meth addiction:

  • Modality.  Specific modes of treatment have been identified as successful means of treating addiction, while other methods have been dismissed as ineffective.
  • Time.  Meth addiction has been identified as a drug which, over time, erodes the victims desire for conventional pleasures, replacing them with a singular desire for the pleasures offered by the drug.  Successful treatment to get a victim away from meth would also have the effect of restoring a healthy, normal behavior in the victim
  • Accountability.  Constant urinalysis tests are needed to verify that the victim remains free and clean of meth.

Rob briefly yielded the floor to Alan Evans, Founder and Executive Director of Thugz Off Drugs.  Alan spoke about the progress of the organization, still less than five years old.  He went on to personally thank several members of the club for their  support:  Jack Crabtree and Ron Noble motivating the organization to succeed, Waldo Farnham for his support, and Bob Emrick for his support.

Rob concluded his talk by fielding questions from the membership.

CLOSING

Prior to adjournment, Dan Gardner asked the membership to vote on whether to remain at the Community Center or to permanently relocate to the McMinnville Ballroom.  A show of hands voted in favor of the Ballroom.

The club has received a thank you letter from Trevor Hollingsworth who received a scholarship from our club and is attending Western Oregon University. You can read the letter by clicking on the image of the letter at the right.
