Bruce Huffman introduced visiting Rotarian from the Sunrise Club, Michael Eichman of the Head Start Program.

Michael Eichman talked about the new Head Start facility that will be opening in Newberg.  Joan and Ken Austin provided the property and $100.000 to finish construction.

Head Start was formed in 1964 and is designed to engage parents in the life of their child.  They offer 3 models:  home based, center based and full day/full year.  Head Start has a large health and nutrition component as well as an emphasis on development, family services, family and community.  Volunteer and government involvement is crucial to the program.  Upcoming fundraiser is Flapjacks and Fiddles.

They need to find a facility in McMinnville.  If anyone can help, please contact Michael.

Head Start relies on government funding and local matches.  Shaq O'Neil was once in the Head Start program.  Participants household income has to be $20,000 or less a year.
