ROTARY'S FOUR WAY TEST
"Of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it Build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"

SOMETHING NEW

Since the beginning of civilization, there has been a surplus of sayers of things. If there is any one particular in which I would have Rotary distinguished from other organizations, it is in the quality of character which results in the doing of things."

Paul Harris, Message to the 1921 RI Convention in Edinburgh, Scotland

opening

Today’s “Welcoming Team” was the venerable Bob Thompson and the member for whom it is always morning, Ryan Arzner.

Dale Tomlinson led the Club in an inspirational moment of prayer.

President Art Bradley led us in the salute to the US flag. . . .Let the record show that as Johannes Goddik was unable to do the setup for the Club lunch, John Larsen and Lee Vasquez filled in willingly and capably—except for the American flag!  Boy do we ever miss Johannes when he is gone.  Thanks for your faithful service to the Club Johannes!

INTRODUCTION OF VISITING ROTARIANS & GUESTS

Steve Larson introduced visiting morning Rotarian, Tom Vail.

John Larsen introduced Kaleb Nyquist, McMinnville High School Interact Club President.

Richard Weed introduced James Gorry, inbound exchange student.

Lori Rumbaugh introduced her guest for the day, her daughter, Elena.

MEMBER RECOGNITION & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ryan Arzner, doing his “morning chores,” alerted John Larsen (not pictured) to his birthday.  John replied something about being 155 years old (or something to that effect) and made a donation to the Club.

Kris Olsen reported that the Grizzlies beat powerhouse Tualatin 15 to 13 on Thursday night, indicating the continued improvement the Grizzlies are making.

Dale Tomlinson reminded the Club that there are only four more days to register to vote in this fall’s election.

John Larsen encouraged people to sign up for the Club Fireside in a few weeks.

Lee Vasquez volunteered that he was so glad to see that Gene Zinda had a new photo taken for his real estate advertisements and that the photo appropriately had more gray hair than the former photo.

Jon Triest was hassled some more for being named Yamhill County “Realtor of the Year.”  In true Jon style, he said if he had known the influence it would have on his business, he’d have gladly forgone the honor.

James Gorry, inbound exchange student from England, reported on the fun time he’s had in the fleeting six weeks since his arrival.  He went to the U of O vs. Oklahoma football game, done some hiking, white-water rafting (part of the time in the raft and part of the time in the water!) and jet-skiing (again part of the time on the jet-ski and part of the time in the water!).  He said he was not the least home-sick but please don’t let his parents know that.

MAIN EVENT

Maryalice Russell and Stan Primovich present background information about the upcoming McMinnville School bond levy, which will finance a number of facility improvements, including:

·        Major expansion of the high school (30 classrooms +)

·        A completely new elementary school (on Booth Bend Road)

·        Major additions to Newby, Wascher, Memorial Elementary Schools

·        Minor work on Patton Middle School and the Adams campus of the High School

·        Total bond will be $62 million (reduced from $96 million)

·        Currently 600 district students are in portable classrooms

·        The District expects a minimum of 650 more students in the next five years

They distributed an informative handout and responded to numerous questions.

CLOSING

President Art announced that next week’s program will be on the Oregon Donor program and adjourned the meeting.
