Chuck Pattishall introduced Evie Campbell-Best and Dick Best, visiting Rotarians from the Salinas (“John Steinbeck”) California Rotary Club. Dick exchanged banners with President Art.
Lori Rumbaugh introduced Eric Burisano, visiting Rotarian from the Forest Grove Rotary Club.
Richard Weed introduced Ben Brown and Alison Nordin, former exchange students to Japan and Germany respectfully.

Ryan Arzner reminded Cindy de las Heras of her 17th wedding anniversary for which Cindy gave a contribution to the Club.
Doug Bartlett also acknowledged his wedding anniversary to Sheila, on behalf of their 35th anniversary. My my, married so many years but still looking so young!
Nicole Walhberg announced the Oregon Vintage Festival over the Labor Day weekend at the Evergreen Museum. It will be complete with lots of wine, food, art, airplanes and even hot-air balloons. Tickets include entrance to the IMAX Theater (if it is completed before you lose your ticket).
Jan Fyant announced that she is now working for Western Oregon Waste with their commercial accounts.
Doug Bartlett announced YCAP’s good fortune to have hired Tricia Harrop as the Food Bank Coordinator. She will begin work August 21st—for which Doug will be very thankful.
Ryan Arzner concluded with several highly unusual sayings attributed to Hallmark’s wastebasket, such as the card that simply said “Happy Birthday Uncle Dad” This writer is under the impression that it was intended to be funny, but.
Ben Brown expressed appreciation for the opportunity of being a Rotary exchange student to Japan. Interestingly enough, he will return shortly to Japan to begin working in a Prefectural Office in Takamatsu City.
Chuck Pattishall reported that Nick Parry has arrived in Thailand only to discover that his host family does not speak any English. Have a great year Nick!
Walt Haight told us that, for those who wanted one, he had brought several copies of the map depicting the Oregon State highway system in 1933 with a few extra bells and whistles that he had drawn while working for the City of Corvallis. While not part of his work with the city, he did the project to keep his cartographic skills honed.

Jan Fyant introduced Dale Schmidt, Executive Director of the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport. Dale has been involved in several aquariums in Florida and is thrilled to be at Newport, one of the “Top Ten” aquariums in the US! With the mission of conveying “marine science education” they take exhibits to schools all over Oregon to acquaint youth with the magic and mystery of the ocean.
The current “in house” exhibit is “Claws” and was done in partnership with the Oregon Dungeness Crab Association. With 59 employees, the Aquarium has an impact of $59 million for the Newport area and an impact of $106 million for the State. The Museum’s goal is to be “the Woods Hole of the Pacific.”
President Art told our speaker that a book appropriately entitled "All about SHARKS" would presented to School District 40's early reader program in his name.
CLOSING
President Art announced that Jeff Tilton from the Oregon Primate Center will be with us next week. Art reminded members of the Concert in the Park on Tuesday evening, a steering committee meeting Tuesday at noon, a club board meeting at noon on Wednesday. and wished everyone a great weekend!
