Jan Fyant introduced Stacey Rice

Jack Crabtree introduced Paul May, visiting Rotarian from Sheridan.

Art Bradley called Dan Gardner forward in apologizing for not giving Dan “enough recognition at the Demotion Dinner”.

MEMBER RECOGNITION & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ryan Arzner has passed along this part of the meeting to Al Owen (a few groans were heard).  Al tried to recognize a gaggle/troop/crowd of members who were NOT IN ATTENDANCE TODAY:  Dick Sadler, Dale Tomlinson, Cindy de la Harris, Doug Bartlett, Maryalice Russell, Tony Browne, Rosemary Davis.

Lori Rumbaugh recently celebrated her 10th wedding anniversary with husband Stan.

“I forgot,” was Jack Crabtree’s response when asked by Al about what Jack was celebrating.  Al reminded Jack that his birthday was on the 10th , four days ago.  Jack will put in an appropriate amount next week.

Jack Price celebrated a recent birthday (and recalled doing so).

Al read from the newspaper that Ryan Arzner was Co-Turkey of the Year last year and put Frank Bumpus in charge of making Ryan pay-up.

In an effort to boost member’s vocabulary Al conducted a contest, enlisting the help of Laurie Gardner and Gary Reuter.

We found that Bob Emrick did not know the definition of “arbitrator” (employee of Arby’s who leaves to work at McDonald’s)

Paul Elias failed to define “baloney” (where some hem-lines fall)

Linda Stephenson missed the definition of “eclipse” (what an internet barber does for a living)

Dan Gardner was clueless about “heroes” (what a guy in a boat does).

Bob Emrick elaborated on the tremendous Wine and Art contributions by Erma and Lee Vasquez.  “I’ve been involved in many volunteer fund raising efforts, but have never seen such dedication and contribution of hours as we have been given by Lee and Erma in getting contributions from wineries.  Erma should be an honorary member of the Club.  Be sure to thank them next time you see Erma and Lee.”

John Larsen expressed thanks for his demotion party and recognized Jan Fyant and John Elliot for their contributions.

President Art stressed the need for all members to be involved putting the Wine and Art Auction together.  There were sign-up sheets on the tables—CONTACT HIM IF YOU CAN HELP AND WERE NOT PRESENT TODAY OR DID NOT SEE A SHEET. Art and Wine committee—MANDATORY MEETING THIS TUESDAY, COMMUNITY CENTER, 11:00AM.  Summer Concert Series began last week.  Next concert is this coming Tuesday, Gypsy Soul is playing.  We need a few Rotarians (good to wear your Rotary tee-shirt) to walk the perimeter of the crowd keeping folks out of the trees.

Ryan Arzner reminded us about the Turkeyrama Talent Contest tonight (7:00) and the Turkey Two-Step dance Saturday (7:00) benefiting Habitat and the Chamber Leadership program.

Brent Adams alerted us to the Mid-Valley Celebrity Golf Tourney, August 28, fund raiser at Michelbook.  See him about playing, sponsoring, etc.

Main event

Bob Thompson observed that a variety of members filled many roles in completing the Rotary Nature Preserve, which was the out-growth of much community input solicited by the Steering Committed chaired by Al Hansen

Bob’s job for the project was to be the official photographer.

We enjoyed a 12 minute video (“the best of my 2 hours of film”) of the varied efforts to make the Preserve a reality.

Thank you, Bob!!

CLOSING

Next week, our District Governor Tom Jenkins will be speaking.  President Art encouraged us to attend even though this time is in the midst of preparations for the Wine and Art Auction.

"When meeting day comes around, I do not have to decide whether to attend or not, for that has already been decided for me . . . it was one of the obligations I accepted when I joined Rotary." -- A Rotarian
