ROTARY'S FOUR WAY TEST
"Of the things we think, say or do:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it Build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"

Today’s “Welcoming Team” was so well staffed with Don Clark, Paul Elias and Johannes Goddik, than when Ryan Arzner finally showed up to assume his responsibility he found out he wasn’t needed.  Shouldn’t this have “merited” a fine or something?

Guy Everingham led the Club in an inspirational moment of prayer.

President John Larsen led the Club in the salute to the US flag and welcomed us to the Cinco de Mayo edition of our Club luncheon.

INTRODUCTION OF VISITING ROTARIANS & GUESTS

Silvia Reyes introduced Corey Woule, Key Bank Business Banker and member of the Newberg Club.

Bruce Wyatt proudly introduced Tom Hellie, new President of Linfield College.

Bob Emrick introduced Rick Kueh, who is in charge of WOW’s operations on the coast and is Bob’s son-in-law.

Ron Stone introduced Gloria Sica, visiting Rotarian from Philomath.

Cory Graham introduced Chris Shine, from the Virginia Garcia Foundation.

MEMBER RECOGNITION & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Chuck Pattishall, handling the duties for Ryan Arzner, recognized Guy Everingham for his recent anniversary. Guy commented that the 31 years have been good, with three children and now three granddaughters!

Jess Davis proudly contributed to the Club in honor of his 29th birthday. (Wonder if this passes the Four Way Test)

Dianne Haugeberg admitted to birthday number 31—and that it was in fact, Friday, May 5th.

Paul Elias was recognized for a "sensitive" birth anniversary.

Ryan Arzner, the keeper of the member recognition records, called Chuck's attention to the fact the oft missing Skip Huwaldt was in attendance today and needed to be recognized.

Skip Huwalt, having returned from a far country, reluctantly admitted to having had both a birthday and an anniversary in the last year—surprise!  He thought he could claim exemption because of the statute of limitations but was roundly corrected by his friends!

Doug Bartlett was recognized for a birthday in late April.  He thought Ryan Arzner should pay because Ryan’s records did not include this data and Doug had to “remind/inform” Ryan.  Wow, who’s keeping track of Ryan anyway?

Craig Singletary, in that singularly booming voice of his, expressed delight to still be able to contribute for his 75th or whatever birthday.

Kristi Brill voluntarily acknowledged that the News Register reported that her daughter was part of the cheerleading team who went to a national competition.  The McMinnville team received 5th place and her daughter won the individual competition!  She was also recently inducted into the National Honor Society.

Wayne Bailey fessed up to celebrating his ninth anniversary and made a contribution to the Club.

It should be duly noted for the record that Chuck Pattishall finished off in the esteemed tradition of Ryan Arzner and others beforehand, of telling a few, final, lousy jokes.

Past President Brent Adams and President John Larsen, assisted by sponsor Bruce Huffman, inducted Silvia Reyes into the Club and presented her with a Rotary pin, badge and plaque.

President John introduced Liz MacDonell of the Virginia Garcia Clinic Foundation, who expressed delight at being one of the groups who will benefit from the Oregon Wine and Art Auction, on July 22nd.  The new facility is going up in a hurry out near the hospital.

MAIN EVENT

Jan Fyant introduced our own Bob Emrick (who must have paid dearly for book like compilation of his accomplishments that he provides those who are going to introduce him!).  Bob, assisted by his son-in-law Rick, excitedly and enthusiastically presented a compressed summary of a seminar/class Bob teaches on Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective PeopleBob shared that he uses these principles personally and also professionally with his management team at WOW.

CLOSING

President John thanked Bob for the program and Bob surprised John with a WOW coffee cup as John mentioned the book that will be given to the schools in Bob’s name.

Next week is teacher recognition.

EDITOR'S NOTES

This week I attended the Rotary District 5100 Conference being held at the Vancouver Convention Center. My main reason for going was to listen to the District's Four Way Test speech contest. I am sorry that I do not have a picture of the student that we sponsored to this competition, Drew Bernhisel, as he delivered his speech to the assembled. However, I am pleased to report that Drew took first place and received a $500.00 saving bond from Wells Fargo.

I was also charged with taking a picture of the lunch (a chef's salad and a piece of pie) that was provided at a cost of $30.00. While I paid for my own, the club paid for Drew's and his mother's lunch. We are getting a bargain for what we pay for our lunches at McMinnville Rotary.

"When meeting day comes around, I do not have to decide whether to attend or not, for that has already been decided for me . . . it was one of the obligations I accepted when I joined Rotary." -- A Rotarian
