A light lunch and a light turnout on a busy day with the Wildcat Open at Michelbook, The Pinot Noir Festival, and the Yamhill County Fair. Greeters Mary Grim and Ez Koch made us glad we came to Rotary. Ez gave the invocation and Dale Tomlinson started the pledge.
Patrick Fuchs brought his lovely wife, Lisa, and Frank Bumpus introduced his wife of 34 years, Kathie. Victoria Linton of Express Personnel was Bruce Huffman's guest.
Cy Jeter started member recognition with Frank's anniversary which brought a check in lieu of a spin. Colin Armstrong said his grandson, Andy, had taken a grand championship for his chicken at the County Fair. Ez Koch reminded us about the benefits of kids' involvement with 4-H and FFA and urged our participation at the Youth Livestock Auction.
President Paul Colbert thinks that Steve Larson has a future as a Biggest Turkey candidate.
Kristi Brill, our Rotarian magazine reviewer, added Ray Fields and Bill Hurliman's names to one of the jokes in the current issue. If you weren't at the meeting, can you guess which one?
Dave Pfendler says 24 members owe $2,800 for roses. in light of the recent gunshot accident, Dave recommended and complimented Wayne Aylward on his superb gun safety course.
The Web page is up at www.onlinemac.com/rotary and includes the weekly bulletin, Ray Fields said
Van Keck, sporting a Y.C.S.O. uniform, drew comments about "the Fuzz" and "no background check?" from Gary Rueter. So Paul Colbert asked the question - why do attorneys run (for exercise) - especially Gary and Eric Hanson? Because some attorneys run to Mexico. Tom Tankersley then asked Paul if he meant that Gary & Eric hadn't been caught yet because they're in shape?
Will Wiebe stepped to settle us down with his vocational talk. Born in San Diego, Will and his twin sister were adopted and brought up on an orange ranch. Will enlisted in the Air Force and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. He's been married for 24 years and has two teenage children. Will enjoys the outdoors - especially cycling and backpacking - and woodworking. As executive director of the Yamhill County United Way, and in life, Will finds it vital to have a positive vision.
The mystery Reclassification Talk Speaker, Dave Pfendler shared some fun stories about doctoring in the Army. If you weren't there to hear it, ask him about rat poison in orange juice. After the Army, Dave went to Detroit, then moved to McMinnville to raise his kids. He's an Otorhinolaryngologist - that's ear, nose and throat doctor to most of us. Dave enjoys the variety in his specialty and showed off some of the tools of his trade.
NEXT WEEK: A cool topic on a hot day - Ken Austin will tell us about his trip to the North Pole.
