MEMBER RECOGNITION
Al (the bushwhacker) Hansen handled member recognition in his own unique style today, extracting a dollar from just about anybody for just about any reason. A Rotarian should always come prepared to pay a fine when Al is around. There were no anniversaries to celebrate this week but Wayne Aylward spun the Birthday Wheel and Lloyd Larson made some kind of a deal with Gary Eastlund to sing him Happy Birthday for $100.00 The highlight of Al's segment was the group singing HIPPO BIRDIE TWO EWES with Al leading the way. You had to be there to appreciate it.
NEW MEMBER
Our newest member Cory Graham was inducted today by Past President Douglas Anderson. Cory is the owner of Lazerquick in McMinville. Welcome to the club.
THE PROGRAM
Milt Robins made quick work of introducing recent inductee Joe Steward who gave his vocational talk today. Joe was born in Michigan where his father owned the billiard parlor where Dick Ecker used to hang out (it's a small world isn't it). Joe moved to the Pendleton area when he was 13 years old, and graduated from Milton-Freewater in 1963. He got into the banking business in the late `60s and belonged to the Pendleton and Milton-Freewater Rotary Clubs in that area. He came West and joined First Federal Savings and Loan in 1977 where he now serves as Loan Compliance Officer. Joe has been involved in just about every service and civic activity you can think of, and is very active in sports. He has coached, officiated and even broadcast athletic events all over the Northwest. Joe is a great addition to our ranks and we are pleased to have him as a member. He has lived by the Rotary motto of Service Above Self all of his life.
The second half of our program was Newberg Rotarian Pat Ridenour who showed us a video about the ROTA-DENT portable dental unit that his club sells as a Rotary World Community Service Project. The units are built by Rotarians at the A-Dec factory with materials provided at cost. The $5000.00 units are sold for $500.00 to agencies in need.
"When meeting day comes around, I do not have to decide whether to attend or not, for that has already been decided for me . . . it was one of the obligations I accepted when I joined Rotary." -- A Rotarian
